As you may have heard, the ARLGP accepted five dogs in June from a South Korean dog meat farm. Many local shelters will be waiving adoption fees on this day. People often line up early at our Fish & Bone adoption events, so please be prepared to wait a small amount of time to meet a puppy and talk to one of our adoption counselors. Shelter pets usually are not always lost dogs that cannot find their way home.
They train; they take care of the dogs and do a lot more. There are roughly between 6 and 8 million pets, namely dogs and cats, put into shelters annually. We have personal experience of a local rescue re-homing very sick animals who should really have been considered for euthanasia.
Once in their foster home, they will need to continue to follow their training plan with their foster family with assistance from ARLGP staff. Adopting from an animal shelter means one less dog will be euthanized. That’s what makes him special to us. He’s a dog who likes people more than other dogs.
There are of course some animals that may have been abused that may take more time to train, but most animals in a pound or shelter are likely to have had some training before making it easier in many ways. Many of the animals awaiting adoption in shelters have had a very poor history.
